Kokrajhar(Assam), April, 7: The Journalists fraternity from Kokrajhar,Terapanth Yuvak Parishad and the People’s Aid NGOs in a joint effort came forward to serve the poor and the needy and distributed food grains at Kanthalguri village under Sukhanjhora VCDC in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Monday.
Altogether 70 families from Kanthalguri,Sukhanjhora West village were handed over packets containing rice, dal,oil,salt at Udangshri Club.
Villagers from Kanthalguri,Sukhanjhora west village lent a helping hand in the distribution programme maintaining all the norms and guidelines set by the government .
The poor especially the daily wage earners are facing extreme hardship in leading their day to day life during the ongoing nationwide lockdown. All beneficiaries expressed their happiness after receiving the food grains stating that at least they dont have face hunger now.
President of the Parishad Vijay Bhura,president of The People’s Aid Nava Basumatary, senior journalist Hantigiri Narzary,retired headmaster Karuna Kanta Basumatary,president of Kanthalguri village society Matilal Mushahary handed over the ration amongst the beneficiaries.
The Parishad president Bhura said that the Terapanth Yuvak Parishad in association with The People’s Aid NGO have decided to come forward at this hour of crisis and distribute food grains amongst the daily wage earners during the lockdown periods.
” We are fortunate to be part this distribution programme which is a noble need to help the poor and the needy at this hour of crisis “,Bhura added.
President of The People’s Aid NGO,Nava Basumatary informed that they have jointly initiated to distribute food grains amongst the needy people to extend their little help for the poor families in the remote area.
He said that his NGO was working for the welfare and integration of the common masses especially for those who are below the poverty line .He informed that in the recent past they had distributed food grains amongst the poor daily wage earners in the remote areas like Ultapani,Saralpara .
Meanwhile,the nationwide lockdown entered into the 14th day on Monday with evoked full response in the four districts of BTAD region.
Till date,there are no reports of any positive case of COVID-19 in BTAD districts. Health department officials and district administrations are working round the clock to stop the spread of Coronavirus outbreak in the region.
The District administration Kokrajhar in association with district disaster management authority(DDMA) and circle officer,Kokrajhar organised a meeting with leaders and religious heads of various religions and different organizations at Kokrajhar Govt HS & MP School playground on Monday to discuss how to control the spread of the dreaded virus .
The meeting which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner,Kokrajhar Partha Pratim Majumdar urged no social gatherings takes place at different religious institutions and only three members would be allowed at different religious places by maintaining social distance of one- meter.
The Religious heads also offered valuable suggestions and ensured to follow the instructions and directions given by the government and health department during the lockdown periods across the district.
SP Rakesh Roushan told that police administration has been keeping a strict ta on on the unnecessary provocative messages on social media regarding the outbreak of Corona virus and adequate steps would be taken against the offenders .
