Kokrajhar ( Assam),June 5: The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has another national park after the Raimona deep forest area was declared as Raimona National Park (RNP) on the occasion of world environment day today.
The Raimona National Park falls under Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district which is situated along the West Bengal in the West and also shares international border with neighboring Bhutan in the north.
The Raimona deep forest region is known for its beautiful flora and fauna and natural sceneries with huge population of wild animals.
The 422-sq km reserve forest will now be known as Raimona National Park.
The five other national parks in Assam are – Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park, Nameri National Park, Dibru-Saikhowa National Park and Orang National Park.
On Saturday , Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma during the world environment day, celebrations announced that the Raimona deep forest area as Raimona National Park .
He said that the Raimona National Park has been declared as national park in the state as the Raimona deep forest region has the potential of a tourist spot with its natural beauty in the state.
Bodoland Territorial Council chief executive member (CEM) Pramod Boro has hailed the announcement of Raimona National Park in the Bodoland Territorial Council area and said that it is a laudable moment for the people of Bodo belt.
He said that the Bodoland Territorial Council area is an area with attractive tourist spots as well as healthy natural resources.
He has thanked to the chief minister Dr Sarma and state government for recognizing the Raimona deep forest areas as national park in the state.
” With the getting announcement of Raimona as national park ,we (citizens) have another national park in Bodoland Territorial Council”, Boro added.
The All Bodo Students Union has also welcomed the announcement of Raimona forest area as National Park in the state on Saturday.
In a press statement, ABSU general secretary Khanindra Basumatary said that the World Environment Day has brought laurels to the people of BTR and Assam, that the Govt. of Assam has declared Raimona Forest reserve under Kochugaon Forest Division as the “Raimona National Park”.
ABSU expressed gratitude for the declaration to conserve the biodiversity of Raimona and ensure that the world community can have the glimpse of the natural beauty and wild live.
Giving such importance to the Bodoland Territorial Region bring the world community closer to this National park along with the famous Manas National Park. He said that the Raimona National Park will bring the nature lovers to the beauty of BTR. This exposure of the rich forest resource from the BTR will garner the enduring peace in the region.
