Kokrajhar ( Assam) , July 3: A cattle smuggler received bullet injuries when he tried to snatch the arms from a police constable and flee in Shukanjhora area under Fakiragram police station early this morning around 1 am .
The accused cattle smuggler tried to flee from police custody after trying to snatch arms from a police constable while the accused was under police custody.
This is the second incident within a month where an accused tried to overpower police personnel and tried to flee .
Addressing reporters today at a press conference held at SP office Kokrajhar, additional SP Kokrajhar,Surjeet Singh Panesar said that the accused person was brought to Kokrajhar early this morning from Gossaigaon after he was arrested in connection with smuggling of cattle from the district.
He was arrested by police few days ago in Vishakapatanam in connection with the case registered with Gossaigaon PS, case no 46/2021,u/s 289/379/417/307 IPC, R/W sec 11(1)(a)(d)(e)(h) of P.C.A Act,R/W sec 184/179/ MV Act.
He was shot at when he tried to flee from the hands of police and later police resorted to firing to stop him and accordingly he received multiple bullet injuries.
He was immediately rushed to Barpeta medical college.
The accused has been identified as Sorangi Chinna(39),who was involved with cattle smuggling in Srirampur under Kokrajhar district.
He is the brother -in – law of noted cattle smuggler, Rubi Reddy from Srirampur.
Panesar said that so far police administration arrested 12 cattle smugglers in the district and strict steps are being taken against the cattle syndicate.
