Guwahati (Assam), Aug 28 : State Chief Secretary , Kumar Sanjay Krishna that if the surge in Covid cases do not subside the government will have no other option but to impose another lockdown .
He warned that if Covid protocols protocols of wearing of masks and social distancing are not followed , another lockdown will be imposed .
He said , “If the people do not wear masks and the number of Covid cases continues to spike upwards, the Government will be compelled to impose yet another lockdown. Although that is not a course that we wish to take, if the numbers do not dip, we will be forced to take drastic measures yet again.”
With around 2,000 new cases being reported daily and the tally almost touching 1 lakh , the state in contemplating imposing another lockdown .
The Chief Secretary said “we are mulling over what to do after that. We have been noticing that most people don’t wear musks .“I fail to understand why they have such a carefree attitude. Noticeably, we are also witnessing around 7-8 deaths daily across all age groups. If people don’t wear masks and the Covid-19 figures keep rising, we might be forced to enforce another lockdown,” he added .
The Chief Secretary said ever since the curbs were relaxed in the state with a view to restoring economic activities, the prescribed norms seem to have gone for an absolute toss.
In capital Guwahati , many people are boarding city buses without putting masks or following the social distancing measures.
Guwahati city is still under lockdowns on weekends . Moreover , night curfews, which are have been lifted by the centre, are still in force in the state .
3 districts in Barak Valley – Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi – are under total lockdown for 10 days from Aug 26.
