Guwahati ( Assam ), June 23 : A total 267 new Covid cases were detected in the state today taking the total number of cases to 5853 .
Assam Health Minister while addressing a press conference earlier in the day said that a over 100 cases have been detected in Guwahati city itself of patients in last 48 hours with no travel history which indicates that community transmission has started in the capital city .
He said that the health department has recommended declaration of ward -wise total lockdown in the worst affected localities of the city .
He said majority community transmission has link with Fancy Bajar area of the city .
Meanwhile , a record number on afflicted areas have been declared as containment zones .
Sarma said the majority of the transmissions were due non compliance of standard guidelines to be followed for prevention of Covid – 19 which includes keeping safe distance , wearing of face masks and washing of hands frequently with soap and water .
He also termed the situation in the city to be “quite alarming” as far as spread of Covid cases were concerned .
The minister tweeted at 11. 50 pm, ” 📌Alert ~ 267 new #COVID19+ cases reported in Assam today.
