Kokrajhar (Assam),Feb 12: Ushering in a new hope of unity and integrity within the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) , just after a fortnight of signing the historic Bodo Accord on Jan 27,all the four factions NDFB have signed an agreement to unite to ensure peace and integration amongst the organisation at a special session of the organisation held at Bijni in Assam’s Chirang district on Tuesday.
The four factions of the NDFB which includes NDFB-Progressive, NDFB-Ranjan Daimary,NDFB-Dhiren Boro and NDFB-Saoraigwra have resolved to take the joint initiative to ensure the implementation of the accord for creation Bodoland Territorial Region(BTR) after tripartite peace talks with centre,state and Bodo organisations and subsequent signing of the historic accord.
The NDFB was founded on Oct 3 1986 and subsequently divided in four factions .
The unification comes just after signing third Bodo accord as all four fraction leaders of the NDFB were signatories along with All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) .
Though there are lot of talks of the NDFB taking an active role in the political process the leaders said that the merger was for proper implementation of the recently signed Bodo Accord and the NDFB ,keeping in mind a healthy spirit of unity has decided to unite at the a special session held at Bijni in Chirang district on Tuesday.
The development was confirmed by Progressive faction NDFB president Gabinda Basumatary.He told South Asia Views that the unification move was first initiated on Feb 8 after the welcome ceremony of Prime Minister Modi on Feb 7 in Kokrajhar following signing of the the Bodo accord.
He said that the leaders resolved to meet for another sitting on Feb 11 where it was resolved that the four factions of NDFB would henceforth be under the banner of NDFB only .
He was hopeful that the unification would continue in the days to come .He has emphasized healthy integration to build a healthy society through the deep unification.
He said that the basic purpose was to put pressure on government for proper implementation of the Bodo Accrord .
“We have united for the greater interest of the organisation as well the society and to ensure proper implementation of the Bodo accord in the days to come .We will now ensure proper implementation of every clause of the Bodo accord”, Basumatary said.
He said that the martyrs families must receive ex-gratia payment from government and also several cadres ,civilians and well wishers who were killed during the movement .
Basumatary,made it clear that there was no move to float a new political party from the organisation.
The region already has local parties ,BPF(Bodoland People’s Front) and UPPL( United People’s Party Liberal).So we are not thinking about it till now “,he said.
Meanwhile, president of the ABSU,Pramod Boro has hailed the unification decision within the NDFB .He said that the unification would bring more integrity and welfare amongst the Bodo society in the near future .
He was hopeful that the decision within the organisation would usher a new hope among the Bodo society in the days to come .
