Kokrajhar (Assam), June 26: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) executive member, Arup Kumar Dey, has announced that former archery champion Gohela Boro will be cared for by the BTC with all medical expenses being paid for by him.
Boro is a multiple archery champion winning at least 77 medals for the state of Assam but has been in poor health over the past few months. She is currently undergoing treatment at the RNB Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar where Dey paid a visit today while also announcing that all medical expenses of the athlete would be taken care of.
He also announced that Boro would be shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi soon so that she can receive better medical care.
“Gohela Boro is the pride of the BTC just like Hima Das is to the state of Assam. We will not only take care of her medical expenses but will also ensure a government job (within the BTC administration) for her in the coming months after she recovers, which we hope will be very soon,” said Dey while speaking to South Asua Views .
Boro won the national gold in archery in 2015 in Kerala and is well known in the archery circuit of the country.
However despite the laurels, the financial condition of Boro has left her in a pitiable state. As per medical reports, the ace archer faces an issue with her haemoglobin levels in her blood, a condition she has been suffering since 2016.
The archery champion hails from the village of New Amguri in the district of Kokrajhar.
Earlier the athlete had appealed to the state administration for financial support.
“I was supposed to take treatment in AIIMS in Feb this year but was not able to due to my financial condition. I would be extremely happy if there was financial support to treat my condition from the government,” she has stated in an appeal to the state government as well as the BTC.
After the visit by the BTC EM, Boro expressed hope that she would be back on her feet quickly after the assurance given by Dey.
