Shillong, July 31: Bollywood star and NEUFC founder John Abraham made his Shillong debut and left promising to return — this time just to sit, swing and soak in the city.
The actor spent his afternoon at Ward’s Lake, strolling the promenade, chatting with visitors and tourism stakeholders, and calling the spot “a pristine and beautiful destination” and one of the state’s biggest draws.
The visit turned musical when he attended a live set by artists of the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme . After inperacting with the young performers, Abraham described the experience as a “revelation.” He praised Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for backing a platform that helps musicians showcase talent, earn a livelihood and keep the state’s music traditions alive.
He was also briefed on how the CM-MGMP is strengthening Shillong’s identity as the Music Capital of India by nurturing grassroots talent.
Abraham further appreciated the Tourist Buddies initiative, saying it makes travel safer and more welcoming for visitors across the state.
The state government, under CM Sangma, has been pushing tourism infrastructure while leveraging music, culture and festivals to position the state as a leading tourism destination. By blending natural beauty with community-driven music, it is building a model that creates opportunities for local artists and boosts the economy.
“I have come here for the first time and trust me I will be back very soon in my own time, where I can just sit on a swing, walk on the bridge and spend some time,” Abraham said before wrapping up his visit.
