Khanapara ( Meghalaya) , May 16 : A workshop on “Solar Astrophysics: A quality approach to Solar Research” and a quiz competition have been held here today, May, 16 2023, as part of the celebration of the International Day of Light-2023.
The event was organized by the Department of Physics, University of Science &Meghalaya (USTM).
Dr Nitu Borgohain, HoD of the Physics department made an introductory speech on the Sun and its importance for a sustainable future. He discussed about the various solar phenomena and relevant astrophysical processes and pointed out that “A comprehensive study of a star could be far more interesting than what we think”. He concluded the workshop with a brief demonstration and hands-on training on the Hydrogen spectrum experiment.
Earlier, the welcome speech was delivered by Dr Murchana Khusroo.
A quiz competition was also held on the occasion of the International Day of Light. It was moderated by Dr. Ritun Chakraborty. Students from the Physics and Chemistry departments participated in the competition. The winners and the participating students were awarded attractive prizes. Students were amazed at the hands-on activities of the workshop and enjoyed the quiz competition.
