Tura (Meghalaya), June 5 : Congress candidate Saleng A.Sangma achieved a massive victory defeating sitting National Peoples Party (NPP) candidate, Agatha Sangma by a margin of 1, 55, 241 votes.
Saleng A. Sangma secured 3,83,919 votes, while Agatha K. Sangma, the incumbent MP and sister of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma got 2,28,678 votes. Zenith M. Sangma from o Trinamool Congress (TMC) got the third position with 48,709 votes.
The results were declared at Tura Chasengre in West Garo Hills on Tuesday.
After the victory ,Saleng Sangma said, “It’s a total miracle for us, we never expected that we would be winning with this huge margin.”
The victory of Congress candidate has come as a great setback for the ruling NPP in the state, which is part of the National Democratic Alliance.
