Shillong, Sep 21: Meghalaya has been ranked India’s best performing state under PMKSY-WDC 2.0 with 73.47 percent score.
The honour was announced as the two-day workshop on Experience Sharing and Way Forward began at State Convention Centre, here.
Soil & Water Conservation Minister Marcuise N Marak said water in Meghalaya is not just a resource but life itself, linking ecology, farming and livelihoods. He said the state has mapped 65,000 springs, identified 70,000 spring-sheds and prioritized 792 critical sources for revival.
Marak also launched the new website and PMIS portal to track 533 water harvesting structures across 12 blocks in real time.
Director L. Shabong said 32 watershed projects covering 62,000 hectares and 96 micro-watersheds have been taken up with Rs 175 crore investment since 2021-22. Over 20,000 hectares of degraded land has been restored and 2,400 water structures built.
The event also saw release of annual report, success stories and felicitation of Watershed Janbhagidari Cup winners.
