Shillong, Sep 21: Balmingstar Lyngkhoi struck a sensational hat-trick as Meghalaya Police thrashed Mylliem 5-0 and jumped from eighth to third in the Shillong Premier League at SSA Stadium today.
Balmingstar scored in the 4th, 31st and 68th minutes, Everestarly Rynjah netted in the 61st, and Fedrick Wahlang scored an own goal in the 77th to complete the rout.
Three points proved massive in the tight title race, lifting Police level with defending champions Langsning but ahead on head-to-head. Mylliem remain last with one point from six matches, edging closer to relegation.
Mylliem gifted Police the lead in the 4th minute when Fedrick’s back pass held up on the wet turf and Balmingstar pounced to score. He doubled the lead with a header from Rapborlang Marwein’s cross.
Everestarly made it 3-0 with a tap-in from Bisharlang Kharumnuid’s pass, before Balmingstar sealed his hat-trick after a Mylliem error and a fumble by keeper Rihoklang Khongjoh.
Fedrick’s miserable afternoon ended with an own goal as he slid in to intercept Rapbor’s cross and turned it into his own net.
It was a debut clean sheet for Police keeper Basuklang Nongsiej, the team’s first shutout this season. Mylliem were a shadow of the side that held Lajong 3-3 last game.
Langsning can go top tomorrow when they take on Nangkiew Irat at 3 pm.
