Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 20: Former Director General of Police (DGP) of Meghalaya, WR Marbaniang, has passed away at the age of 75. He succumbed to an illness at Super Care hospital here , leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to the state’s police force.
Marbaniang served as the state’s DGP from January 31, 2005, to March 21, 2007, and held various positions in the Meghalaya police force. His contributions to the force and the state will be remembered. He showed great leadership during the militancy phases of the state and was instrumental in establishing the 2nd MLP Battalion at Goeragre as the first police battalion in Garo Hills.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and other officials have expressed their condolences, remembering his courage, foresight, and leadership in the state police force. “Saddened by the demise of former DGP of Meghalaya Police, Shri W R Marbaniang. Shri Marbaniang showed great leadership during the militancy phases of the state and was instrumental in establishing the 2nd MLP Battalion at Goeragre as the first police battalion in Garo Hills. He will be remembered for his courage, his foresight and his leadership in the state police force. May he rest in peace,” said a statement from the government.
