Shillong ( Meghalaya ) , Jan 15 : Along with with the rest of the country , there has been a surge of Covid -19 cases in the state .
The state recorded 162 new Covid cases in the state on Saturday taking the total number of cases in the state so far to 86, 147 .
According to a state health department release , 69 patients recovered from the virus on Saturday and the active cases now stand at 991 .
Among the new cases East Khasi Hills topped the list with 121 new cases . West Garo Hills reported 23 new cases , Ri Bhoi 6, , East Jaintia Hills , South West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills 3 each , West Khasi Hills 2 and East Garo Hills 1.
Though there were no reports of any deaths on Saturday , the death toll due to the virus so far in the state stands at 1, 490 .
