Shillong (Meghalaya), Sep 17: In a shocking twist, a 13-year-old boy, a neighbor of the victim, has confessed to accidentally causing the death of 4-year-old girl child, whose lifeless body was found in an under-construction building in Nongrah Nonglum locality here on Sept 14. The boy’s chilling admission has sent shockwaves across the city, leaving residents stunned and demanding justice.
According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, the teenager confessed to taking child to the under-construction building, where he was washing mud from his feet in a water-filled pit. In a tragic sequence of events, he slipped and pulled the toddler into the pit, resulting in her drowning.
The investigation revealed that the boy had initially misled investigators by claiming to have seen masked men and a black Scorpio vehicle at the time of her disappearance. He even participated in search parties while concealing his involvement in her death.
The police have remanded the boy to a juvenile home, and he will face proceedings under the Juvenile Justice Board. The case has sparked widespread outrage, with demands for stronger child safety measures and swift justice. A special investigation team is conducting a thorough probe into the incident.
