Tura(Meghalaya), March 4: NPP’s MDC from Gasuapara constituency Sengchim N. Sangma was on Friday was elected as the new Chairman of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
He was nominated by the NPP along with its alliance partners to the post.
Sengchim won the GHADC elections last year from Gasuapara constituency in South Garo Hills, defeating Devier M Sangma of the UDP.
Sengchim Sangma secured 18 votes out of 30 while his contender from Trinamool Congress secured 12 votes.
A special session of the GHADC was held today to fill the vacancy.
The post has been empty since Rakesh A Sangma resigned as the Chief Executive Member .
The election was conducted by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh this morning .
