Shillong (Meghalaya), Mar 22: The Departments of Botany and Environmental Science, Sankardev College, in collaboration with Saindur Enviro Pvt. Ltd., Shillong, the State Council of Science, Technology, and Environment (SCSTE), Government of Meghalaya, the Outreach and Social Extension Committee of Sankardev College observed the International Day of Forests at Nongumlong Secondary School here in Upper Shillong.
The event, held under the theme “Forest for Future: Connecting Forest and Food for Sustainability,” aimed to raise awareness about the importance of forests in ensuring food security and sustainability.
The program, attended by over 190 participants, including students, community members, and experts, featured two sessions of interactive discussions and awareness drives.
Ms. Rose M. Lyngdoh, Head of the Department of Environmental Science, Sankardev College, inaugurated the event, emphasizing the significance of forests in maintaining ecological balance.
The International Day of Forests is celebrated globally on March 21 to raise awareness about the importance of forests and their role in sustaining life on Earth.
