Dimapur (Nagaland), Nov 13: A rifleman, Khatnei Konyak, from Nagaland was amongst one of the soldiers who lost their lives in an ambush by “militants” Saturday morning on a convoy of Assam Rifles near Sehkan village, Churachandpur, Manipur.
Besides killing a commanding officer of the Assam Rifles, his wife and their son, four personnel of the para-military were also the victims of the IED blasts coupled with gunfire.
Rifleman, Late Khatnei Konyak, belongs to Zangkham village in Nagaland’s Mon district, married only last year and blessed with a small child and a wife.
According to a family source, the mortal remains of late Rifleman Khatnei Konyak will reach his native village today (Sunday), for which necessary arrangements have been made for a befitting send off.
Meanwhile, Lt Gen PC Nair, DG Assam Rifles, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of its “brave soldiers” who made the supreme sacrifices in the line of duty in Manipur.
The five martyred soldiers were—Col. Viplav Tripathi, Riflemen—Suman Swargiary, Khatnei Konyak, RP Meena, and Syamal Das.
