Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 11 : The National People’s Party along with National People’s Youth Front today organised a candlelight vigil at its party Office here to protest the killing of civilians at Oting village in Nagaland by paramilitary forces.
Speaking to the media, Meghalaya Health Minister James K. Sangma said the people have suffered over the years due to the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, which gives an unbridled power to the force. He also demanded that this law should be repealed.
In a series of tweets James Sangma said , ”The @nppmeghalaya along with the NPYF organized a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the civilians who were unlawfully gunned down in Oting, Nagaland, by the Assam Rifles. We want speedy justice be done to the families by identifying & punishing the perpetrators at the earliest.”
”Our Party is against the AFSPA.A democracy cannot have such a draconian legislation & I appeal to the GOI to repeal the Act.I call upon every citizen belonging to NE India to come together in solidarity for this cause. It’s during such times that we need to stand together as one.”
