Shillong(Meghalaya), Oct 17: Meghalaya slipped to a nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament in Jaipur today.
Up against a team that boasted of several Indian national and Indian Premier League players, Meghalaya eked out 65/9 in their allotted 20 overs, which Mumbai chased down for the loss of one wicket in 9.4 overs.
Made to bat first after losing the toss, Meghalaya had no answer to Mumbai’s top-class bowling attack, which included the likes of Tushar Deshpande (3/8), who most recently played for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
Meghalaya were left reeling on 27/7 before No. 8 Anish Charak and No. 9 Akash K Choudhury put on 23 together and it was these two who were the only ones to get into double figures – Charak finished not out on 20 while Choudhury made 11.
In the chase, Mumbai opened with an India international, Yashasvi Jaiswal (21), and newcomer Angkrish Raghuvanshi (32 not out). When Jaiswal fell to the bowling of Meghalaya guest player Rajesh Bishnoi (1/20), he was replaced by seasoned India international Ajinkya Rahane (8 not out).
After two defeats, Meghalaya will now hope for a change in form when they take on Mizoram on Thursday.
