Shillong ( Meghalaya), May 17 : 16 more Covid -19 patients succumbed to their infections in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 336 .
A total of 634 new cases were also detected in the state in the last 24 hours taking the no of active cases to 4,915 .
A total of 237 Covid -19 patients were released from various hospitals on Monday after full recovery .
Meanwhile, state Governor, Satya Pal Malik urged for more strict regulation of the lockdown.
The Governor who visited Golf links , Upper Shillong and Police Bazaar areas of Shillong urged to ensure lockdown measures were followed and asked the DC ,East Khasi Hills to take necessary action .
Upon reports that the public at Laitumkhrah area of Shillong are not following the protocols, despite regulation on opening of shops, and strict instructions that people should move out only for essential purposes, it was noticed that many are not complying to the protocols of the Health Department,
Moreover ,many shops were seen to be crowded, some persons not wearing masks or observing physical distancing with due diligence and people moving from one locality to another despite restrictions, and vehicles without passes were plying , the DC, East Khasi Hills Ms. I Laloo in an order today said that all shops in Laitumkhrah area of Shillong including market area and street vendors along the whole stretch of Laitumkhrah main road shall remain closed with immediate effect until further orders.
