Noida (UP) , Nov 19 : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma was conferred with the Honorary Degree – ‘Honoris Causa’ by the prestigious Sharda University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh today.
Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Sibaram Khara presented the degree and the memento to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in presence of Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank during the 4th Convocation Ceremony of the University.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister said that it is important for educators and leaders to focus on the development of the youth. “We need to shape the youth in positive manner and take this country forward”.
“We need to shape young people to be responsible students and responsible citizens of our country. I appreciate the diversity in the university,” the Chief Minister asserted.
Receiving the degree, he said that Sharda University will shape the future of our nation.
“It is my focus that every citizen and youth of the State is productive; it is not the quantity but the quality that matters. Be the best you can to contribute to the society, the State, the country and Mother Earth. He lauded the outstanding performance of the students and efforts of all involved in taking this institution to high levels of eminence”, he said.
He hoped that this university will improve the lives of the students in a better way in the coming times. He further encouraged the students to be honest, fearless and bold towards achieving their goals. He enthused the students with new level of energy, fresh enthusiasm and novel direction. Sangma also congratulated the University for its achievements and wished many more laurels in soon to arrive.
He praised the Ministry of Education, Government of India for initiating policy intervention to better the education scenario in the country.
He also took the opportunity to inform the Union Education Minister Dr. Pokhriyal that Meghalaya is working to ensure that every youth in the State is trained with one skill. “We have decided as State to be the first state where every youth of our State is trained in a certain skills. We want our youth to get the opportunity to follow their passion and talent”, he added.
Dr. Pokhriyal was also conferred an Honorary Degree by the Sharda University.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Education Minister said, “In the time of the Covid epidemic we showed how challenges turn into opportunities. This is possible only when our talented students tap themselves and contribute to the progress of the country. Students will have to contribute significantly in nation building and making the country develop”.
He said that the association of moral and cultural values with education in educational institutions is very important. Dr Pokhriyal congratulated the passing students and said that this moment is one of the memorable moments in their lives.
He congratulated Sharda University and Chancellor PK Gupta for achieving rank in NIRF. The Education Minister said that he is happy to know that more than 2000 students from 56 countries study in this university. The Government of India’s plan Stay in India and Study in India concept is being followed here. Sharda University is also spreading education outside the country, it is a happy moment for us.
Chancellor of Sharda University PK Gupta said that he is in favor of professional education. “It requires passion rather than hard work. If someone is determined to become something, he will believe it only after achieving success. We focus heavily on girls’ education. There is no shortage of funds in the education of meritorious children. We pay a lot of attention to girls scholarship. I believe that educating a student awakens education around her”.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, VHP Patron Dinesh Chandra, Akhil Bhartiya Sah Sampark Chief Ramlal and local MP Dr Mahesh Sharma and Secretary General of Quality Council of India at the fourth convocation held at the Sharda University Activity Center Dr. Ravi P. Singh etc. was present. The most modern library was also inaugurated before the program started.
At the function, the education minister gave degrees to the students. On this occasion, 3593 undergraduates and 1203 post graduates were awarded virtual. 30 doctoral degrees and gold medalists were awarded during the convocation ceremony. A total of 26 students received gold medals. 6 students were awarded the Chancellor’s Medal. 3 students received the Chancellor’s Medal. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from the Pro Vice Chancellor of Sharda University.
