Imphal(Manipur) , Aug 16 : A total of 179 fresh Covid cases were detected in the state on Sunday taking the total number of Covid cases in the state to 4, 569 .
Among the new cases detected today 111 of them belong to the Armed Forces .
The state also reported 3 deaths today taking the death toll to 16.
Additional director(Health ) Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang in a press statement said two Covid-patients who were undergoing treatment at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in here succumbed to their infections on Sunday. The other death took place at Jawarharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) .
The patients who succumbed to their infections includes a 44-year-old BSF jawan, a 94-year-old man from Thoubal district and a 73-year-old from Imphal West district .
Meanwhile , due to the sudden increase of Covid cases in the state the total lockdown has been extended till Aug 31 .
