Shillong(Meghalaya), May 21 : The State Level Inter School Athletics Meet, 2026, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Athletics Association, continued today, at the Sports Training Centre, Sports Authority of India (SAI), Mawkynroh, (NEHU Campus), here, with a major focus on track and field events.
Building on the momentum of the inaugural day, Day 02 opened with the 5000M finals for both Under-18 boys and girls. The competition featured a strong mix of track finals, including the 400M, 600M, and 1000M races. Out on the field, athletes across multiple age groups contested the Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, High Jump, Long Jump, and Shot Put. Competitors in the Under-14 category advanced through their Triathlon events, which included the 60M sprint, Long Jump, and Back Throw.
A key highlight of the day were the team events, featuring the 4x100M heats, Medley Relay heats, and the 4x400M Relay finals for the Under-16 and Under-18 divisions. Additionally, the day included the Kids Javelin qualification round for the Under-14 girls.
As of the Day 2 medal tally, East Khasi Hills District has taken a commanding lead in the competition, sitting firmly at the top of the leaderboard with an impressive overall score of 85 points (41 points from the boys’ events and 44 points from the girls’). At the second position is West Jaintia Hills District with an overall total of 35 points, largely driven by a strong 21-point performance from their girls’ contingent. Closely trailing in third place is East Jaintia Hills District with a total of 32 points, with a total of 14 points from the boys and 18 points from the girls.
The athletes participating in the event, showcased good teamwork, cooperation, and coordination. Learning these skills during sports activities will help them in various phases of their life and future careers.
The competition will reach its peak tomorrow, with the final events kicking off at 9:00 AM. Following the conclusion of the sporting events, the three-day meet will officially wrap up with a Closing Ceremony where the champions and winning districts will be felicitated for their performances.
