Shillong (Meghalaya), Mar 21: In a significant victory for animal rights, the Meghalaya High Court has ruled in favor of Dhyan Foundation, a non-governmental organization, in a case against the State of Meghalaya.
The case, WP (C) No.190/2019, was filed by Dhyan Foundation and its authorized volunteer, Smti. Tankala Naga Chandrani, against the Meghalaya government and its various departments.
The court’s decision is a major win for animal welfare in the state, as it sets a precedent for the protection of animals from cruelty and neglect. Dhyan Foundation has been at the forefront of animal rights activism in Meghalaya, and this victory is a testament to their tireless efforts.
This landmark case is not the first time Dhyan Foundation has taken on the authorities to protect animal rights. In a similar case, the Orissa High Court ruled in favor of Dhyan Foundation, stating that interim custody of cattle cannot be given to owners who violate animal transport rules.
The Supreme Court has also upheld Dhyan Foundation’s efforts to protect animals, granting interim custody of illegally transported cattle to the organization’s gaushala.
