Shillong ( Meghalaya), July 15 : IIM Shillong organized the Commencement ceremony to welcome the 16 th Batch of the Two- year full-time Post Graduate Program (PGP 2023-25) and Doctoral Program (2023) today , 14 th July 2023. This year the programs witnessed the enrolment of 390 students in PGP batch and 17 in the Doctoral Program.
Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest of the Commencement Ceremony, Prof. K K Aggarwal delivered a thought-provoking address to PGP students, highlighting the challenges and rewards they will encounter beyond the institution. He emphasized the importance of creating a future and seizing the opportunity provided by one of the best IIMs.
During his speech, Prof. Aggarwal emphasized the value of “collaboration over competition”, recognizing the advantages of diverse perspectives and teamwork. He encouraged students to work together to achieve greater success.
Moreover, Prof. Aggarwal emphasized the practical application of knowledge and experience, cautioning against relying solely on gut feelings. He urged students to make informed decisions using their education effectively.
The Chief Guest also called for sustainability and creativity innovation to be fundamental qualities of every graduate. He acknowledged the global consequences of neglecting sustainability and emphasized the need for creative thinking to find solutions to contemporary challenges.
Special Guest, Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra, Executive Director & Head, Indian Oil Institute of Petroleum Management and Former Director (Human Resource), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., captivated the students with his speech at the Commencement Ceremony, appreciating the aesthetic beauty of Shillong and celebrating the diversity among the students. His inspiring address encouraged the empowerment of female leaders within the institute and urged the students to make the most of their time at IIM Shillong.
During his speech, Mohapatra highlighted the “significance of lifelong learning and purpose-driven actions.” He emphasized the value of embracing diversity and leveraging its strength to foster innovation and growth. Prof. D P Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong, extended a warm welcome to students, scholars, faculty, and parents, congratulating them on their remarkable journey ahead. IIM Shillong ‘s post Graduate Programme enrolment for the current year showcases the highest diversity quotient, with an impressive representation of participants from various backgrounds. The institute proudly reports that female participants represent 51.6%, while male participants account for 48.4%.
This year, IIM Shillong achieved a significant milestone by welcoming the highest-ever number of students from Northeast India. A total of 12 students from the region have enrolled, highlighting the institute’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity.
