Resubelpara (Meghalaya), Aug 18: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC), Dainadubi Regional has complained to the deputy commissioner of North Garo Hills (NGH), RP Marak, against a contractor, Chikano Momin after the contractor left a PMGSY road work incomplete.
The incomplete road has created a massive hassle to the local population with travel on the road becoming a nightmare.
The road in question connects the villages of Amerim, Bugakol, Tombuma, Kentra, Chilpara, Tengasot and Lower Rongbu in the district of NGH.
“The road work has been abandoned by the contractor since 2019 and the condition has now begun to affect villagers who use it on a daily basis as well as outsiders,” said the unit chairman, Pinder Marak.
The GSMC, through their complaint today, has sought the intervention of the DC as well the department in charge of road construction (PWD) to initiate an inquiry into the delay of the completion of the road as well as to restart and complete the work.
Further the committee also mentioned that the nearby Gairong Bridge, which has been damaged, is also unusable. Due to the situation of the bridge a subway has been built but that too has been damaged leaving the two banks and many villagers, leaving transportation from both sides completely cut off.
“This is a very important bridge as it connects thousands of people including those employed in daily labour, vendors and school students. Without a connection to the two sides, the people of the area are suffering. This needs to be immediately looked into,” felt the NGO.
