Shillong ( Meghalaya), April 9 : The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organizations (HITO) today asked the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Ms. Isawanda Laloo to take action against those newspapers for publishing the news item issued by a terror organization “Lawei Ba Phyrnai” threatening to carry out a series of bomb blasts at educational institutions in the state via an email to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
In a complaint letter to the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, the organization said, “The HITO demands that the newspapers carrying the news items to clarify if they have verified the antecedents of the sender of the email or not.The HITO would like to remind that it is imperative for media houses to carry authentic news and avoid creating unnecessary panic for the people.
If the media houses are bound by an order of the High Court on carrying threats by a banned outfit, why give importance to an unverified item. Their demand to free a former MLA Julius Dorphang who is lodged in a jail for raping a minor girl is unreasonable as the matter is with the Court. Their claim of being highly educated is bogus because an educated person wouldn’t demand freedom for a habitual rapist.
As a responsible organization, we have taken their threats to carry out armed attacks especially in a school. We ask, why attack a school? Why attack innocent children. The Government, through Home Department should keep an eye and hunt for those outfits who threatened the innocent section of our society.
The HITO demanded immediate clarification whether the said report has any merits. If not ,the government should take stern action against such Newspapers who are willingly publishing such unverified rubbish aimed at nothing but to disturb peace and harmony in the state”.
Meanwhile , Police are probing the threat email sent to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma that bombs will go off every single week starting from May 1.
