Shillong ( Meghalaya), Feb 2 : The combined NGOs of Tikrikila along with other NGOs of Garo Hills region will observe non cooperation movement on Thursday and Friday as a mark of protest against the election of Chief Executive Member of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, Rakesh Newar Sangma.
The NGOs are not in favour of Rakesh Newar Sangma holding the coveted post of prestigious tribal institution of Garo Hills Autonomous District council.
The NGOs said that they will not accept the election of the new Chief Executive Member Sangma, as he is a non-Garo MDC. The NGOs also strongly criticized some of the MDCs who voted for Rakesh Newar Sangma” to become the Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council. The NGOs said that the non-cooperation movement that will be observed from tomorrow will be in the interest of the Garo community .
Meanwhile , In view of ongoing to protest against the functioning of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Office, the District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Tura today promulgated an order under Section 144 Cr PC read together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Disease, Covid-19 Regulations, 2020 prohibiting assembly or gathering of more than 5 persons at a place and at any time in the office premises of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
The order also prohibits causing any obstruction or intimidation to movement of office vehicles or office goers moving into the areas with the intention of carrying out any kind of protest and carrying or concealing on person of lathis, sticks, stones, missiles, firearms or any kind of lethal weapons, by any person or group of persons or organisation.
