Tura (Meghalaya), Oct 16 : A massive fire broke out in Tura market late Tuesday night, reducing 13 shops to ashes and causing widespread destruction . The inferno, which began around midnight, ravaged an entire row of shops adjacent to the Tura Super Market, resulting in losses worth lakhs of rupees .
According to Superintendent of Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Bruno A Sangma, most of the destroyed shops were makeshift structures made of shanty materials, which likely fueled the fire’s rapid spread.
Electrical issues are suspected to be the cause of the blaze.
Located in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, Tura is a thriving town known for its stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant markets.
This tragic event comes as a shock to the community, especially considering the town’s significance as a cultural and administrative center of the Garo tribe.
