Shillong(Meghalaya), Sep 20 : Three social organizations belonging to the Khasi Students’ Union(KSU), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front(HYNF) and Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) held a protest rally near the memorial of freedom fighter U Kiang Nongbah at Barik Point here on Monday demanding the state Government to immediately suspend the police personnel involved in the killing of the surrendered HNLC leader C. Thangkhiew on Aug 13 last .
The three organizations supported by Ri Bhoi Youth Front(RBYF) said that they whole heartedly supported “Ka Sur Ki Nongmawlai” in their demand for immediate suspension of police personnel involved in the unfortunate Mawlai Kynton Massar incident that led to the killing of former HNLC leader C. Thangkhiew.
Speaking at the protest rally, one of the social activists, Sadon Blah informed that under Article-310 of the Indian Constitution, the state Government does not have the power to suspend any Indian Police Service personnel and bureaucrats belonging to the Indian Administration Service.
He further added that if the state government was sincere in its intention, it should have immediately informed the Centre about the incident within 24 hours which would have enabled the removal of the erring officials .
Blah added that more than one month has passed after the incident and the state government is yet to take any action against the top police personnel .
