Shillong ( Meghalaya), May 5 : The state BJP has sent a letter to the Union Edication Minister for extending the last date to apply for the CUET .
In a letter addressed to the Union Education Minister ,BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said, that NEHU is planning to implement the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) from the forthcoming academic session for all colleges affiliated to it. The implications of this decision is that all the students who pass class XII this year, in order to get admission in any college in Meghalaya should pass the CUET-UG .
In the same letter Mawrie said, that many of the local students in the state are unaware of this new development and requested the intervention of Union Education MInister to extend the last date so as to enable as many students as possible to register for the same.
He further stated that the situation that will arise is that no student in the whole state will be eligible for admission to BA, BCom, BSc and other undergraduate courses. Most of them would not have applied for appearance for the test since the last date is April 30, 2022.
‘ Even if they manage to apply at the last moment, it would be difficult for them to sit for the examination since there is only one online exam centre in Shillong and none in any other town. The number of Class XII-passed students will be too high to be accommodated in the exam centre’, Mawrie said .
The BJP president also stated that there will be a big crisis in June-July, which is the time when the admission process is normally carried on in the colleges and there is even danger of serious breakdown of law and order.
