Shillong, July 6: A husband and wife were arrested in Shillong on Sunday after police seized 14.42 grams of suspected heroin during an anti-infiltration and anti-narcotics operation in East Khasi Hills.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, personnel from the Anti-Infiltration Directorate and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force checked 35 individuals on July 6 as part of efforts to curb illegal infiltration and drug trafficking. Several others fled on spotting the police team.
All 35 persons who were checked produced identity and residence documents from other states. Police said verification of these documents with the concerned states is underway.
During the operation, ANTF personnel apprehended Shri Rahim Ali, 43, and Smti Jaibanu, 35. Officers recovered 116 vials of suspected heroin from their possession, which were seized in the presence of an independent witness.
A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station vide Case No. 242(7)2026 under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act. Investigation into the matter is ongoing.
