New Delhi, Aug 1: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Friday. The meetings are part of the Chief Minister’s ongoing engagements with Union ministries to seek greater support for Meghalaya’s developmental priorities.
During his meeting with Amit Shah, Sangma discussed key issues concerning border security, infrastructure requirements, and the welfare of defence personnel from the region. In a similar meeting with Rajnath Singh earlier this year, Sangma had briefed the Union Defence Minister on matters crucial to Meghalaya and expressed gratitude for the Centre’s support.
The Chief Minister’s meeting with Nirmala Sitharaman centered around financial matters, including the state’s revenue gap grant and central taxes. In February, Sangma had met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he expressed gratitude for the Centre’s allocation of Rs 5,105 crore from the share of central taxes and Rs 1,279 crore as Revenue Gap Grant for the next financial year.
These meetings underscore Meghalaya’s efforts to strengthen its ties with the Centre and push for development projects that align with the state’s unique needs and priorities. With the National Games on the horizon, Sangma’s engagements in New Delhi are crucial for securing support and resources to make the event a success.
