Shillong (Meghalaya), April 22: In a swift operation, the police have caught a bike thief and arrested four others in connection with a string of bike thefts in Upper Shillong.
According to reports, two R15 bikes were stolen from Sunny Hills and 3rd Mile Upper Shillong in the early hours of today. The night patrols were alerted, and Naka checks were set up at various locations.
One of the stolen bikes was abandoned at Sangmein, while the other was intercepted by the Naka party at Pynursla. One of the thieves escaped after attempting to jump the Naka, but Nironton Tangsong, 24, of Mawryngkang was apprehended.
Further investigation by the Special Cell, East Khasi Hills, led to the arrest of four more individuals: Pius Talang, 19, of Pyrdiwah; Lovingstar Surong, 18, of Pynursla; Balajied Mawiong, 19, of Sohlong, Pynursla; and Banpynskhem Mukhim, 19, of Pynursla.
The gang is believed to be involved in multiple bike theft cases, and the arrested individuals will be produced in court tomorrow, April 23, 2025.
