Guwahati (Assam) , Oct 4 : An Assam Rifles jawan was killed while another was severely injured after the water tanker they were travelling was ambushed near Hetlong village between Jairampur and Nampong in eastern Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Sunday at 9:40 am.
According to sources, the militants targeted the water tanker by detonating multiple Improvised Explosive Device.
According to sources , after the IED blast, the militants opened fire indiscriminately targeting the 19 Assam Rifles personnel.
NSCN (K) and other Northeast insurgents groups are active in the Changlang district as it shares a boundary with Myanmar.
Security forces, suspect the involvement of 30-35 militants of the Paresh Baruah faction of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA Independent) and the Yung Aung faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) in the incident.
The injured jawan has been admitted to a government hospital in Changlang and is likely to be airlifted to Assam.
