Shillong( Meghalaya) , May 2 : Despite a lockdown type restrictions in the state the alarming surge in Covid -19 cases in the state continues .
On Sunday , 321 new cases were detected in the state out of which 212 cases were reported from capital Shillong and its suburbs which falls under East Khasi Hills District . West Garo Hills reported 41 cases, West Jaintia Hills 20 cases , Ri Bhoi 15 cases , East Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills 11 cases each, . North Garo Hills 4 , South West Khasi Hills 3, South West Garo Hills 2 and 1 each in East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills .
Among the 5 patients who succumbed to Covid -19 complications today , 4 were from East Khasi Hills and 1 from East Jaintia Hills .
A total of 154 patients were also discharged today after recovery .
The total number of Covid -19 cases in the state has now gone upto 17,429 out which 1,821 are active cases after 15, 429 patients recovered . The death toll as of now stands at 179 .
