Shillong(Meghalaya), June 25 : The number of Covid-19 cases on Friday went up again with East Khasi Hills remaining on top of the list with 134 fresh cases followed by West Garo Hills with 126 and West Jaintia Hills with 119 . Ri Bhoi reported 84 new cases .
The state recorded 7 more Covid deaths . West Jaintia Hills Hills reported three deaths, East Khasi Hills two and one each in East Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills.
The number of recoveries on Friday was 354 . The number of active cases in the state now stands at 4,665 .
State Health Minister A L Hek while talking to South Asia Views expressed his confidence that the situation would be ‘controlled’ by the end of this month as vaccination drive has been intensified in the state .
Talking exclusively to South Asia Views , DHS (MI) , Dr . Aman War said the the situation has been static for the last 3 -4 days in the state and added that the Covid situation would be under control by June 30 .
He said the 2 infants who succumbed two days back had other health problems apart from being infected with Covid -19.
Stating that the situation was not as bad as it appears he said that out of 8,000 deaths registered so far this year, only around 400 have succumbed to Covid-19.
He said that free inter mingling without following Covid protocols was the main reason behind the sudden spurt of Covid cases in the state in the past 4 days .
Dr . War also stated though there is flattening of the curve in the state the real results should be evident from June 30 as extensive vaccination process in on right now .
