Tura(Meghalaya), July 24: Three persons were arrested this morning after the sensational assault on a PWD overseer in the village of Adokgre under Kharkutta police station in North Garo Hills wherein another 2 women were also beaten up.
The arrest comes after an FIR was filed by the PWD overseer against those that barged into his house and assaulted him.
On July 22, late evening, a huge number of local youths from the village of Adokgre entered the house of the PWD overseer and assaulted him and two other girls who were with him at the time. The villagers had been angry at the overseer bringing two women in his house leading to the attack.
Through the FIR filed by the PWD overseer, he identified the two girls as his ‘sister’ and her friend and identified some of the assailants.
“A criminal case has been registered against the assailants and investigation into the matter is currently on. Three persons have been arrested till now in the assault case,” confirmed superintendent of police, NGH, Abraham T Sangma.
The three arrested in the above case have been identified as Phantom Sangma (27), Azariah A Momin (21) and Churik A Momin (25). All of the 3 are residents of the same village.
