Shillong (Meghalaya), April 30: Nongkseh SSCC and Khimusniang SC stormed into the pre-quarterfinals of the 5th Meghalaya State League today after commanding wins in Group A at the SSA Stadium.
Nongkseh hammered Umkaber SCC 16-0 in one of MSL’s highest-scoring games ever. Veteran Kitboklang Pale led the rout with six goals in the 32nd, 35th, 39th, 54th, 75th and 82nd minutes. Shano Tariang hit a hat-trick in the 69’, 89’ and 90’+2, while Chesterpaul Lyngdoh bagged his third treble in five games with goals in the 33’, 52’ and 79’. Hardy Cliff Nongbri scored twice in the 66’ and 90’, Pynbhalang Suting netted in the 76’, and a 10th-minute own goal rounded off Umkaber’s nightmare.
Earlier, Khimusniang SC battled past Mawshun SCC 3-1. Meroily Lytan struck first for the West Jaintia Hills side in the 10’, but Restorewell Marbaniang equalised for Mawshun in the 72’. Civility Khongmalai then sealed it with a brilliant 75th-minute free-kick and another in the 78’.
With 15 and 12 points, Nongkseh and Khimusniang are locked for the Top 2. Their May 6 face-off will decide who tops Group A.
In Williamnagar, Maram FC beat Balmanduri 5-1. Bris Taro’s hat-trick in the 63’, 73’ and 83’, plus goals from Tremarchwal Ch Marak in the 37’ and Easter Salchang Ch Sangma in the 90’, kept Maram second. Chichang M Momin scored Balmanduri’s consolation in the 71’. Balmanduri stay fourth in Group G.
Tomorrow’s matches all kick off at 3pm. Mawlum Tyrsad SCC play Mulang SC Nongbah at the MFA Ground in Group B, Laskein SCSC meet Amlarem SC in Amlarem for Group C, Thangskai Tiger SC face Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC in Khliehriat in Group D, Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC take on Shillong Lajong FC in Wahiajer for Group E, Langsning FC meet Lawbah SC in Mairang in Group F, A’chik SCO Rongjeng play Attong Matgrik FC in Williamnagar for Group G, and Rangdajied United FC face Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun in Mawkyrwat in Group H. There is no match scheduled in Group A at the SSA Stadium.
