Guwahati/Shillong, Oct 5: Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited on Sunday flagged off the 23rd North East Metalliferous Mine Safety Week–2026, setting the tone for a week-long safety audit across Assam and Meghalaya.
Held under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Guwahati Region, the annual exercise is more than a compliance check — it is a peer-learning drive to raise the safety bar in open-cast mining.
The flag-off, held in hybrid mode, took place at Dalmia’s two key mining hubs — New Umrangso Limestone Mine in Dima Hasao, Assam and DCBL Mine Block III, IV & V at Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. Around 50 mining heads and officials from 17 mines in the organised sector participated.
From October 4 to 10, three inspection teams will fan out across mines in both states to assess safety systems, identify improvement areas and share good practices.
At Umrangso, B. Dayasagar, Director of Mines Safety, Guwahati Region, Ambuj Srivastava, Unit Head, Dalmia Cement (NE), and Anil Kumar Ganapurapuwar, HOD-Mines, attended the ceremony along with mine officials.
At Lumshnong, the event was led by DDMS K. Prem Kumar and Kamlesh Kumar Verma, along with Unit Head Pankaj Gupta and HOD-Mines Hemant Sharma.
“It is a privilege to host the flag-off of the 23rd Northeast Metalliferous Mine Safety Week. Safety in mining is a shared responsibility. This platform helps us learn from each other and continuously raise the bar on safe operating practices,” said Ambuj Srivastava, Unit Head, Dalmia Cement (NE) Limited.
DGMS officials wished all participating teams’ success and urged them to use the week to exchange learnings for safer mining operations across the Northeast.
