Imphal, Aug 31: Two villagers died and another sustained serious injury when a group of militants launched a gun attack at a tiny hamlet in Kangpokpi district of Manipur on Monday.
According to police in Imphal, armed militants opened indiscriminate fire at a Kuki-inhabited village in the Kangpokpi district named, N. Teikhang where two people were left dead.
As the panic-stricken villagers started fleeing to the nearby dense jungle fearing attack, the militants torched a couple of houses in the village and then vanished immediately.
Security forces arrived in the spot and launched operations to bring the situation under control.
The incident came days after suspected militants ambushed a vehicle in the district, killing four Naga civilians and injuring another.
Kuki Students’ Organisation strongly condemned the attack.
