Imphal, Aug 28: The Manipur Government has decided to take strict action against anyone found in possession of illegal weapons, irrespective of community, amid renewed violence in the state.
The decision was taken at a high-level security meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
The meeting also reviewed the IT Road incident in Kangpokpi district where four civilians were killed. “The Government condemned the incident in the strongest terms. The Chief Minister instructed security officials to nab and initiate action against the perpetrators,” a statement said.
The meeting further decided that cadres of militant outfits under Suspension of Operations or in peace talks with the Government will face stern action if found carrying weapons beyond their designated camps.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, DGP Mukesh Singh, Joint Secretary Northeast, MHA, ADGP Intelligence/Law and Order Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo, Home Commissioner N Ashok Kumar, IG CRPF, IG Assam Rifles East and South, Dy GOC 57 Mountain Division, Joint Director SIB and senior officers of BSF, SSB and other agencies.
