Shillong, Aug 27: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today released Rs 93.69 crore as first installment of Post-Matric Scholarship for ST students for AY 2025-26 at Shillong College, in presence of Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui.
Altogether 96,812 applications have been verified with total outlay of Rs 198.42 crore. Centre conveyed Rs 84.55 crore and State sanctioned its 10% share of Rs 9.40 crore.
Funds will go directly to students’ bank accounts via RBI under new Single Nodal Agency mode. Unlike last year’s advance by State before Christmas, Sangma said advance is no longer possible as students would get double payment. “We applied political pressure to ensure 40% was released immediately,” he said.
RBI will process 96,812 accounts one by one and may take 4-5 working days. Students should not panic if SMS is delayed due to Raksha Bandhan and weekend holidays, he said.
Education Department will track failed transactions due to Aadhaar and bank mismatch till all are paid. NSP for AY 2026-27 is open from July 3 to Nov 30, 2026.
