Imphal, Aug 27: Four people died when a vehicle carrying a group of people was ambushed by militants in Kangpokpi district of Manipur forcing the authority to launch massive manhunt in the entire area.
The killed include the principal of a private school who along with 4 3 others were travelling by the vehicle.
The attack took place at an isolated area in between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga village, killing 4 people and injuring another. All 4 victims belonged to the Liangmai Naga community and died on the spot.
The bodies were brought to the Senapati District Hospital while the injured one was also treated at the hospital.
The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) kept their shops and business establishments bandh in Senapati district headquarters town.
According to what the various Naga organisations claimed, around 3 Kuki militants attacked the Naga civilians.
The victims were identified as Wisobou Charenamai, Tadsongbou Ringkangmai, Mariakdibou Wijunamai and Anil Wijunamai.
In a statement, the United Naga Council (UNC), the apex body of the Naga people in Manipur strongly condemned the killings and alleged security failure.
