Shillong, July 23: Meghalaya’s famed sweet pineapples have made their quick-commerce debut. The fruit is now available on Swiggy Instamart in Bengaluru, listed as “Pineapple (From Meghalaya)”.
Sourced directly from Jirang Organic Farmer Producer Company and air-freighted, the pineapples reach consumers within hours. Known for high Brix content, sweetness and aroma, the produce is part of a new direct-to-consumer push to give farmers better returns and strengthen Meghalaya’s farm brand.
The Bengaluru launch follows the success of the 4th Meghalaya Pineapple Festival at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, where 30 metric tonnes were sold in 3 days.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the initiative reflects the state’s vision to connect farmers to national markets and turn local produce into high-value brands. “This ensures better income for farmers while delivering fresh, premium produce to consumers,” he said.
To expand reach, the state government has signed MoUs with Flipkart and NCDEX e Markets Limited (NeML). The tie-ups aim to provide long-term digital and institutional market access for Meghalaya’s niche agricultural products.
With rural produce now moving to metro apps in hours, Meghalaya is positioning its pineapples as a premium, farmer-led brand on the national stage.
