Shillong, July 24: The Education Department released the Meghalaya School Performance Grading Index 2025-26 today, the state’s first school-level assessment covering all 11,443 recognized schools across 12 districts.
Based on certified UDISE+ 2025-26 data, the MSPGI scores schools on 43 indicators across 5 domains — Accessibility, Digital Education, Infrastructure, NEP Activities, and Quality. Maximum score is 1,000 points. Each school will get an individual Report Card with its score, grade and rank.
Schools are placed in 17 grades from Utkarsh for outstanding performance to Akanshi-10 for those needing intensive support. The index is meant as a diagnostic tool to help schools, teachers and district officials identify gaps and plan improvements.
The launch comes as Meghalaya recorded its highest-ever national PGI score of 525.71 for 2025-26, up from 401.62 in 2022-23. The state moved from Akanshi-3 to Akanshi-1, exiting the lowest performance band for the first time.
Officials said school-level improvements under MSPGI in infrastructure, digital readiness and quality will directly help the state’s national PGI ranking in coming years.
