Tura (Meghalaya), March 10: The situation remains tense in Tura, West Garo Hills, after two individuals were killed in police firing amidst protests over the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) election nomination process. The Army has been called in to restore order, and a flag march is underway.
The curfew has been extended to 48 hours, with mobile internet services suspended. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has appealed for calm, assuring justice will be served.
The GHADC elections are scheduled for April 10, with nominations ongoing until March 16.
