New Delhi , Sep 4 : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah today in New Delhi to discuss several pressing issues affecting the state. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders engaging in constructive discussions on creating a separate cadre for Meghalaya, currently part of a joint cadre with Assam, to better manage the state’s administrative needs.
The state is also pushing for recognition of Khasi and Garo languages in the 8th Schedule to the Constitution, building on previous discussions about including the Garo language. Sangma urged Amit Shah to implement the Inner Line Permit system in Meghalaya to regulate the entry of outsiders, a move the state assembly has already endorsed.
Additionally, the Chief Minister requested that a road in New Delhi be named after the late P. A. Sangma as a tribute to his contributions. The meeting demonstrates the government’s commitment to advancing Meghalaya’s interests and preserving its cultural heritage.
