Shillong(Meghalaya), Nov 25 : The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was observed today in East Khasi Hills District, here , with a program held at Ramkheng Village. The event was organized by the District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.
The program featured insightful speeches by Ms P. Riahtam, Legal Aid Counsel, Shillong, on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and A. Khongsit, SI, Sohra PS, on Cyber Violence against Women and Girls.
An interactive session followed, providing a platform for discussions and awareness about the issue.
The observance of this day aims to raise public awareness and promote advocacy to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls. Globally, an estimated 736 million women have experienced physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life.
